Inaugural Youth Apprenticeship Week Celebrated at the Building Trades Community Open House

Reno, NV — April 30, 2024 — The Northern Nevada Apprenticeship Coordinators Association (NNACA) invites the community to explore the region’s union apprenticeship training centers during the 2024 Building Trades Community Open House. This unique event provides an exclusive opportunity to peek behind the scenes and gain insights into the construction industry. We are also thrilled to announce the integration of the First Annual Youth Apprenticeship Week into this year’s Building Trades Community Open House, celebrating the vital role that young apprentices play in shaping the future of our construction industry.

Event Details:

  • Date: May 11, 2024

  • Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

What to Expect:

  • Tours: Take guided tours of state-of-the-art training centers, where apprentices learn essential skills.

  • Program Information: Learn about various apprenticeship programs offered by unions, including electrical work, operating engineers, ironworking, and more.

  • Career Exploration: Youth participants will have the chance to explore various trades, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of the skills required for success in construction.

  • Networking: Connect with industry professionals, instructors, and current apprentices.

  • Hands-On Experience: Get a feel for the tools and techniques used in the building trades. Why Youth Apprenticeship Matters: NNACA believes that investing in youth apprenticeships is an investment in the future of our communities. By celebrating Youth Apprenticeship Week alongside the Building Trades Community Open House, we encourage young talent to explore their passions, discover their potential, and contribute to the growth of Northern Nevada’s construction industry.

  • Addressing the Skills Gap: As seasoned workers retire, the construction industry faces a critical skills gap. Youth apprenticeships bridge this gap by nurturing a new generation of skilled tradespeople.

  • Hands-On Learning: Apprenticeships offer a unique blend of classroom education and practical experience, allowing young individuals to learn while earning a wage.

  • Career Stability: Apprenticeships provide a pathway to stable, well-paying careers, ensuring economic security for young workers.

Whether you’re considering a career in construction or simply curious about the industry, the Building Trades Community Open House promises an informative and engaging experience. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
